My Steampunk Pirate Lolita Outfit I wore at the Role Play Convention Cologne (Sunday).

This years theme was "Dark Waters" so I decided a Pirate Outfit would be the best but for my love of Steampunk and Lolita it had also fit those two categories^^
I think, it worked out quite well, what do you think?

(Oh, and yes, that's a squirrel on my shoulder ;) Looong story, but I guess a parrot would have been too easy xD)

Outfit:
skirt and hat: self made/modified
corset: restyle.pl
rest: bought off-brand and 2nd hand

How did you make the hat? I'm thinking of doing a steampunk pirate costume to a convention in November but I'm not sure what to do about the hat D:

It's one of that floppy hats that were en vogue last summer/autnm. (like this one: [link] ) I bought mine at H&M then just put the edge up at three points with a few stitches.
(First sewing on the lace and stuff^^)

It's a good outfit, very pretty, but to be honest it doesn't really fit the category of Steampunk, Pirate, OR Lolita. Female pirates were few and far between and even when there WERE female pirates, they did NOT wear corsets, that would make it far too difficult to move and breathe while working a ship. The steampunk element is missing entirely, I see no clockwork, brass, complex parts, or really anything that falls into the steampunk category, and I see very few frills and very little lace that would effectively make it Lolita.

That being said, it's still a very nice outfit.

I forgot something^^

Steampunk for me indicates an alternate universe, so why not have female pirates^^

(I also forgot to finish the 2nd last sentence correctly: I hope I sound not only angry, 'cause it's definetly not meant this way and I'm always open to con-crit^^)

Well I don't claim being a historical correct pirate (due to be female^^), (and I'm pretty sure, nobody would wear a corset like this for work xD, although women in rokoko would wear a stomacher or something comparable even while working because it's part of the "underwear", not while working on a ship maybe, but they for other works)
I ind it a little bit harsh to say, the steampunk elemant ist missing completely. I guess that's also a point of view how you do define "Steampunk". I personally will NOT use clockwork without any function (thinking of the great song "just glue some gears on it), 'cause I just don't like it (same for wearing "useless" goggles ;) ). There's definetly brass in the outfit (corset, chains, watch, parts if the hat decoration, that is not visible in the picture, the compass hang from the belt, also invisble, by shoe buckles, my pistol and so on, so for me, there's enough complex parts (although I'd like to have some more gadgets^^)
Well onto Lolita: Lace is NOT a main component of a lolita outfit. There are many who contain a lot of lace but it's not necessary (e.g. [link] or [link] , both containing little or no lace but are definetly lolita! other example: the exact skirt as above: [link] also defintely lolita)
Also looking at the examples of the lolita sub category "pirate lolita" (here in the german lolita community [link] ) this would count^^ (keeping at back of one's mind that nobody claims beeing historical correct, nor do e.g. Halloween costumes^^)

(I hope I sound not only angry, 'cause it's definetly not meant this way^^)

Anyway, thank you for your compliment :D

Had the pleasure of seing your outfit at the RPC, it was very impressive.
The majority of "Steampunks" at RPC wore outfits that looked so new and shiny but yours looked worn and used. Definetly liked it.
